The project is a co financing project between DFID, Sida and Norway as donors who will together with contribution from Zanzibar finance the project of providing 25MW of power to Unguja Island to ease the outage crisis that has affected the island very negatively since December 2009. After the (old) cable was restored in March 2010, the capacity will be used as back-up and serve as a security for supply.
