Mari Boine at the Sauti za Busara festival

11-16 February, the Old Fort in Zanzibar turns into the main stage for one of East Africa’s largest music events. The festival attracts talents from all over East Africa, but also big names from other parts of the world. Sauti za Busara means ‘songs of wisdom’ in Kiswahili and it is a week of great performances, dance, theater and music in Stone Town.
This year the Sàme artist, musician and singer from northern Norway, Mari Boine, is attending the festival with her band. They will work with musicians from Dhow Country Music Academy, and perform with them on the main stage on Friday evening.
On their way to Zanzibar, Mari Boine and her band stopped over in Dar es Salaam, where they played for a Norwegian audience and the Royal Norwegian Embassy’s partners on climate change. Many of Mari Boine’s songs are about Mother Earth and how we need to protect her in future generations, so she was no stranger to the Embassy’s strong message and work concerning climate change.
