The conference will be planned and executed in cooperation with government representatives from around the world, IEA/OECD, UN, IRENA, multilateral financing institutions, academia, utilities, various private sector actors and civil society. - Mr. January Makamba (MP), Ms. Zubeda Chuma and Eng. Sophia S. Mgonja from TANESCO (Tanzania Electric Supply Company) will be representing Tanzania in the conference.
The Oslo conference will feature a one-day high-level meeting on 10 October that will focus on how to unlock progress towards global energy access and global development goals. The conference will start out with high-level government representatives from developing countries providing their own perspectives and achievements so far, and challenges ahead in securing energy services for all in their domestic constituencies. The key issues of private and public financing and political and legal framework conditions will then be examined. A special session will discuss potential linkages between climate finance and increased finance for energy access. The conference will highlight how renewable energy and energy efficiency fit into ‘Energy for All’ strategies and aim to stimulate action and financing for fuel- and cost-effective cook-stoves, in cooperation with stakeholders already working to galvanise public attention to the tremendous human costs of low quality, ineffective cook-stoves.
This high-level meeting will culminate in a Chairman’s Summary on ‘Energy for All’, along with WEO 2011 to be conveyed to the G20 Summit in Cannes, the COP17 Summit in Durban, the Rio 2012 and the UN year of sustainable energy for all in 2012.
