Norway supports 200 female engineers in Tanzania.

Last updated: 18/05/2010 // An agreement was signed on 5 May 2010 by Charge d’ Affaires Mr Svein Baera, Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam and Chairman Eng. Prof. Ninatubu Lema from Engineers Registration Board (ERB). The Norwegian funds will support the Engineers Registration Board of Tanzania (ERB) and its “Structured Engineers Apprenticeship Programme” with approximately 2 million USD over 5 years.

The majority of the funds will be used to support female engineers to participate in the programme, acquire professional competence and register as professional engineers. Support will also be provided for capacity building of mentors and support to professional associations of female engineers.

- I am very pleased that this agreement is now in force says ERB Chairman Eng. Prof. Ninatubu Lema. The funds will assist us in doubling the number of female professional engineers participating in the SEAP programme within a five year period.

- We trust that through this programme we will see more female engineers in leading positions both in private and public sector in the future comments Charge d’ Affairs Mr Svein Baera.  As Tanzania’s long standing development partner, we believe gender equality will provide more economic growth and less poverty in Tanzania. That’s why the partnership we have now established with ERB is very valuable in this respect adds Mr Baera.
