Mimba – a new film about maternal health in Tanzania

26/08/2008 // Norway has supported the film ”Mimba”, which means pregnant in Kiswahili, and which is about maternal health in Tanzania. The Film is produced for Prime Ministers Office – Regional and Local Government by Maweni Farm Media.

The film compares the maternal health situation in Moshi, Serengeti and Lushoto. Moshi and Serengeti have a relatively low maternal mortality rate, while Lushoto in Tanga Region has a high rate. The film contains interviews with women who have given birth, their husbands, health workers, government officials, politicians and villagers from the three districts. It discusses governance issues, work-ethics, infrastructure, quality of dispensaries and best practises.

- The Royal Norwegian Embassy hopes that the film can be used as a point of departure for discussions about maternal health, women’s health and gender issues in the districts in Tanzania, says the Minister Counsellor, Svein Bæra.
