Norway is to increase its contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria by NOK 75 million, making the total Norwegian contribution NOK 450 million per year. This is equivalent to an increase of 20%, and it means that Norway will donate almost NOK 1.4 billion to the Fund over the next three years.

The project Helping Babies Breathe was launched in Dar es Salaam 9 September 2009. The aim is to reduce the number of newborn deaths. The development of the educational material to be utilized is funded by the Norwegian Lærdal Foundation for Acute Medicine. Norway is committed to assist Tanzania in its efforts to achieve MDG 4&5.

On November 20 th , 2007, The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( Norway ) and William J. Clinton Presidential Foundation signed a USD 9.75 mill. agreement on cooperation on a Program to reduce HIV transmission to newborns and to enroll HIV positive women, children and their partners in Lindi and Mtwara regions in Tanzania .

In 2007 Haydom Lutheran Hospital launched its Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 programme, and the number of births increased by more than 75% in just a year. 3900 women delivered at Haydom in 2008.
