Last updated: 10/11/2009 // Ambassador Jens-Petter Kjemprud recently signed an agreement with the Eastern African Power Pool in Addis Ababa. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Norway supports the Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP) with NOK 15 million.

The support to EAPP is for technical assistance for operationalisation of Eastern Africa Power Pool Coordination Centre (EAPP-CC) and Independent Regulatory Body (IRB). These bodies will contribute to increased access to reliable, affordable and environmentally friendly energy in rural areas in Eastern Africa through a competitive market.

- Hopefully this is the first step of a very important cooperation, Executive Secretary of EAPP, Jasper Odour said during the signing ceremony. - The short timeframe  until  2013 is a reflection of our high commitment.

- The EAPP could contribute to a set up of workable power trade arrangements, mutually beneficial to power exporters and importers. We have good experiences of such arrangements in the Nordic countries and trust East Africa will agree on similar programmes and agreements, said Norwegian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Jens-Petter Kjemprud.
