Visa requirements

The Visa Section will not receive phone-calls from the public on visa matters outside these hours. 

The Embassy will normally need 15 days to issue visa.

The requirements for having your application for a visa to Norway processed by the Embassy are as follows:

If you are not registering your application online, you need to submit the application form – duly completed and one passport size photo. The photo must be in color and with white background. DO NOT STAPLE OR GLUE THE PHOTO ON TO THE FORM, USE PAPER CLIP!

A valid passport/travel document. The passport/travel document must be valid for at least three months longer than the date of return to Tanzania and recognised by all parties to the Schengen Agreement.

Enough money. Evidence that you are able to pay for your stay in the Schengen Area (bank statement, travellers' cheques, wage slips)

Or

Guarantee form filled in by the reference (person inviting you). This form can be obtained from the local police station in Norway and should be notarially certified before it is forwarded - in original - to the applicant or the Embassy. The form can be downloaded from www.udi.no

Invitation letter from the reference. If it is a private trip, the letter must contain the following information about the reference:

  • Full name
  • Date/year of birth + personal number in Norway (total of 11 numbers including date/year of birth)
  • Place of birth
  • Nationality
  • Previous nationality if any
    If not Norwegian citizen, pls. state immigration status and reference No. with Norwegian Immigration Authorities
  • Marital status
  • Residential Address
  • Employer (if any), and employer's address
  • If not employed, how does the reference support him-/herself in Norway?

In the invitation letter it has to be mentioned what kind of relationship the reference has to the applicant (if related, can this be proved?) Introduction letter If this is a private visit and you are employed, then you should bring a letter from the employer confirming the employment, and that you will be given leave during the period for which you are applying for a visa.

Marriage certificate If this is a private trip and you are married travelling without your spouse, it is advisable that you bring and show your original marriage certificate

Confirmed return ticket to Tanzania. A print out will be sufficient to start with – PLS DO NOT PURCHASE YOUR TICKET BEFORE YOU ARE SURE THAT YOU WILL BE GRANTED A VISA!!

Travel Insurance must be valid for all Schengen countries – and each person must be insured for a minimum of 30.000 Euros

After all supporting documents are submitted, the case processing time is 15 days. Please allow time for this process.

Sometimes the Embassy forwards the application to the Directorate of Immigration in Oslo, Norway. When this is the case it can take up to 4 months to get a reply.

Visa fee, is currently at TZS 150.000 (EURO 60) - has to be paid when handing in the application.  Children below 6 years do not pay visa fee.
